Fancy a 23-Mile Bike Ride that’s Easier than A Walk in the Park?

Haleakala Sunrise guided bike tour

Haleakalā (“House of the Sun”), also known as East Maui Volcano is a massive shield volcano which makes up approximately 75% of the Hawai’ian Island of Maui. The volcano also rises up to an altitude of around 10,023 feet (3,055m)

A guided Haleakalā bike tour is nowhere near as daunting as it sounds

There’s no need to panic as we’re not going to make you cycle all the way up to the summit! Not even professional cyclists would relish that challenge. In fact, during the Tour de France, the world’s most famous cycle race, the highest one-day climb in the mountains is Col du Galibier at an altitude of 2,642m.

Instead, if you opt for the Sunrise Bike Tour you will be taken up to the summit to watch the most spectacular sunrise, before commencing your bike ride a little further down the volcano, most of which is downhill over its 23-mile length. Now, that doesn’t sound quite so bad, does it?

Bike Maui LogoA family-run business that provides top-quality bikes

Obviously if you are going on a cycling tour, then you’re going to need a bike and a helmet. Fortunately, you don’t have to worry here as you will be provided with both, and not just an ordinary pedal bicycle, but a KONA® mountain bikes which has been especially designed for downhill biking and which is fitted out with hydraulic disc brakes. Add a Bell® helmet, a DAKINE® backpack and Helly Hansen® rain gear and you’re pretty much there.

Bike Maui, who provides everything you need are a family-run business, so they genuinely care that  your tour is as enjoyable as possible, which is why they also have a fantastic range of bike sizes to suit all statures, as long as you are at least 12 years old and 4’10” tall. All we suggest you do bring with you is water and energy snacks/gels, sunglasses, a hat, sunscreen, suitable clothing as it isn’t hot at the summit at daybreak and, of course, a camera!

The two biggest advantages of the Guided Dawn Haleakalā Downhill Bike Tour

Aside from the obvious (I tis a downhill bike tour!) two other great features of this experience are the magnificent sunrise – something you could watch every day for the rest of your life and never get bored with just how beautiful it is as the sun rises up out of the Pacific Ocean. Second is the fact that if you want to cram as much as possible into your Hawaiian vacation, you will still have half a day left to experience something else, perhaps just a touch more relaxing, like the Quicksilver Maui Sunset Dinner Cruise.
