Points of Interest:
Maui residents and repeat Maui tourists have a favorite bakery. It’s Komoda Bakery at 3674 Baldwin in Makawao.
T Komoda is known for four special bakery items cream puffs, stick donuts, long Johns, and guava malasadas. Each one of those is amazing and delicious. But they also have wonderful pies, cakes, cocoa puffs, butter rolls, breads, cookies, and everything else you would expect a major bakery to have. This place is so popular that they sell out of many items early in the day. They open at 7 AM, and it’s best to get there by 10 AM or earlier to have the best selection. They are closed on Wednesdays and Sundays. Makawao is a cute old cowboy town with interesting shops and galleries, so plan on a half day to see the town when you come to Komoda Bakery.
Near mile marker 10 on Highway 37 you’ll find a sign on the mauka side informing you of the Enchanting Floral Gardens. The Enchanting Floral Gardens in Kula has eight acres of walking tours displaying over 1,500 species of tropical and semi-tropical plants and flowers from around the world. The more you stroll up the path the more rewarding it is. The garden has a wide variety of exotic flowers such as proteas, orchids, hibiscus, jade vines and a variety of fruit trees. Some have complained the gardens are not maintained well, but overall we were pleased with it and found the price of $5 (per adult) reasonable. It’s a nice stop on a day trip when visiting up-country Maui.

Nestled on the slopes of Haleakala National Park, the Kula Lavender Farm is a fragrant purple paradise, unlike anything you’ve seen before. Here, visitors can admire over 55,000 lavender plants, olive trees, hydrangea flowers, and succulents. Though lavender is not native to Maui, the plant thrives in our area’s cool, dry climate and blooms year-round.
Lunch Suggestion. The Kula Lodge has been a favorite of both visitors and Maui residents for great dining and great meals and breathtaking views of Maui. Perched high above the green hills of Kula on the Valley Island of Maui, the Kula Lodge and Restaurant is a comfortable place to relax on the way back from Haleakala, Hana or Maui’s Ulupalakua Winery. Arriving from the other direction, the Kula Lodge is a gateway to rich scenery of Upcountry Maui, as wonderful place to meet or treat your friends and the only full-service bar in Kula. 15200 Haleakala Hwy, Route 377.

When people talk about wine, they inevitably talk about “place,” and for good reason. Wine is defined by place. The soil, the air, and the sun goes into each cluster and ends up in every bottle. Our wines are inherently tied to the uniqueness of the island and to those who craft them. We invite you to experience our “place”and the unique wines shaped by this amazing island. You might just find that you’ve discovered a side Maui you would never have imagined.
The final stop before beginning the Road to Hana, Pa’ia has a well-deserved reputation for being one of the most eccentric places on Maui. Anything goes here, and the fantastic people watching combined with great food and unique shopping put this little town on the must-visit list. Pa’ia is located at the intersection of Hana Highway and Baldwin Avenue, and everything worth seeing can be found by wandering up and down these two streets. Park your car in the free lot on Hana Highway just west of town, and wander in and out of the many unique shops.
