Oahu to Maui One-day Trip – Haleakala Adventure Tour
One-day trip from Oahu with round-trip airfare to visit Haleakala National Park, the town of Makawao and Iao Valley State Park on Maui
First, we will visit Haleakala National Park, known as the “House of the Sun” at 9,740 feet above sea level. The view of the dormant volcanic crater from the summit of Haleakala will be unforgettable. The Haleakala National Park Visitor Center has a variety of exhibits, and in the surrounding area you can see the endangered alpine plant, silver sword grass, and many native Hawaiian plants.
Next, we will take you to Makawao Town, famous for its paniolo (Hawaiian cowboys). This town is also known as an artists’ enclave, where you can catch a glimpse of glass blowers, wood carvers, and painters at work.
After having lunch on your own in Makawao Town, we will pass through Wailuku Town and arrive at Iao Valley. Iao Valley State Park is characterized by sky-high 2200-feet-high rock walls, beautifully clear mountain streams, and a canyon with subtropical trees and majestic scenery. Maui’s most famous landmark, the 1200-feet-high Iao Needle, is also located here. It is also the site of the Battle of Kepaniwai, where King Kamehameha the Great defeated Maui’s forces and unified Hawaii in 1790. There is a paved walkway from the parking lot to the Iao Needle observation deck, from where visitors can enjoy magnificent views of the valley.
