Kualoa Ranch, Hawai’i – The Adventurer’s Version of a ‘Candy Store’

Most of you will have heard the expression “It’s like being a kid in a candy store” when faced with an array of options, each of which looks equally as enticing. Welcome to Hawai’i’s version of that candy store, Kualoa Ranch!

So where do we begin when we tell you about what’s on offer at Kualoa Ranch? Well, how about telling you that there are over ten individual tours or adventures you can go on, and these range from a couple of hours to seven hours long, which is great if you like cramming in loads of different experiences when on vacation. Better still, the adventures are also designed to fit every budget, so don’t let money stop you from enjoying all the fun!

Did we mention Jurassic Park?

As if the list of things to do at Kualoa Ranch weren’t exciting enough, the ranch, set within a 4,000-acre private nature reserve, is also the location for a number of films, most famously Jurassic Park. It should therefore come as no surprise to learn that four of the packages have a Jurassic park theme – the 2.5-hour Jurassic Adventure tour, the 1.5-hour Hollywood Movie Sites tour, the 2.5-hour Jurassic Valley zipline adventure, and the ATV Raptor tour. If you really want to soak up the atmosphere, we strongly recommend you do a bit of binge watching of the Jurassic Park film series in advance, it will make it so much more exciting when at the ranch.

What’s your favorite mode of transport?

If you think that a ‘sightseeing tour’ always involves traveling round in a minibus, think again. As if the choice of tours and adventures wasn’t broad enough, Kualoa Ranch has virtually all modes of transport covered including flying! While you will enjoy being onboard a 16-seater for the Best of Kualoa Experience, it is no ordinary minibus but instead a purpose-adapted vehicle which has open sides to let you really soak up the atmosphere. If pedal power (with a bit of extra help) is more your thing, then why not take the E-Mountain Bike tour on battery-assisted mountain bikes? Of course, if you would prefer something more sedate but exhilarating all the same, we strongly recommend the Horseback Walking tour, and if you just want excitement, then hop aboard an ATV and drive yourself around the famous film setting in an ATV. As for the flying part, we may have told a little fib here as we are talking about the exciting Jurassic Valley Zipline, so at least you get to experience the setting from a pterodactyl’s point of view. And we haven’t finished there as one of the main reasons you may love Hawai’i is that you are never far from the sea. So, how about doing a bit of exploring onboard a fabulous 49-passenger catamaran on the Ocean Voyage Adventure, or you could think a little smaller and instead opt for a canoe or Kayak with the Secret Island Beach Activities adventure?

Something for everyone at Kualoa Ranch – learn about Hawai’i’s culture and sustainability

If Jurassic Park ‘ain’t your thing’ and flying down a ziplines fills you with dread, one of the equally popular outings at Kualoa Ranch is the Malama Aina, which translates as ‘care for the land’. This two-hour excursion will teach you about the importance of sustainability on the island and how important caring for the upland ʻahupuaʻa streams as they feed the loʻi down through the valleys and into the ocean is. You also get to learn all about the importance of kalo where food is concerned in the history of early Hawaiians, even down to where Kualoa is mentioned in the 2,000-year-old Kumulipo genealogy chant as being the location where the first kalo plant sprung to life.
