What Better Way to Enjoy a Hawaiian Sunset Than From Onboard a Catamaran

calypso sunset blog post

Actually, we don’t mean to disappoint you, but there is a better way to enjoy a Hawai’ian sunset, and that’s aboard the triple-deck Calypso Catamaran while eating a fabulous meal with a few drinks to help wash it down. It has to be the ultimate dinner experience.

On the south coast of the north-western Maui ‘peninsula’ is the charming Ma’alaea Harbor adjacent to which is the Maui Ocean Center. The harbor is conveniently located roughly between five and six miles from the towns of Kihei, Wailea, Wailuku, and Kahului, and is the perfect setting-off point for your memorable evening experience. As you leave the harbor, the Kahalawai mountains form a stunning backdrop in Western Maui together with the magical scenery of Haleakala and the Molokini Crater. Once at sea you will also be able to enjoy the sights of the smaller islands of Kahoolawe and Lanai. If you happen to be vacationing in winter, the sunsets are just as glorious, and with a bit of luck you may get to knock something else very special off your bucket list, and that is a bit of whale-watching as you are on the migratory route for humpback whales as they make their way south from Alaska.

How to build up an appetite before your sunset cruise

Like all the other main Hawaiian Islands, there’s plenty to see and do on Maui, so why restrict yourself to just the one ‘adventure’ for the day. Fancy exploring the island by helicopter? Blue Hawaiian Helicopters offer something truly wonderful as you enjoy a breath-taking bird’s eye view of the island and its volcanic features. Maybe you’d prefer to remain closer to the ground with a Lahaina ATV adventure or if you really wanted to capture the ‘magic double’ you could opt for the guided sunrise downhill bike tour of Mount Haleakala – now how many times have you witnessed both sunrise and sunset on the same day?!

How to satiate that appetite you built up during the day

calypso food blog postOne thing’s for sure, once you disembark the Calypso at the end of your sunset cruise, you will no longer be hungry, thanks to the veritable feast that will have been laid on for you. You have a fabulous choice of prime rib, baby back ribs, smoked chicken, or local island fish for your main dish, all served with a Caesar salad and Hawaiian rolls, plus a mouth-watering choice of New York-style cheesecake or chocolate cake for dessert. Oh, we nearly forgot to mention that you also get a couple of free drinks included, so you now have the difficult decision of trying to decide if you would prefer a Maui craft beer, some wine, a pina colada, or a mai tai, though non-alcoholic beverages are also available. If you are a vegetarian or have other dietary restrictions, the cruise management aboard the Calypso will do their very best to accommodate your needs provided you contact them well in advance.

And it’s not just fantastic views and a hearty dinner that’s waiting for you aboard this boat. Live music and entertainment is also part of the entire evening’s experience.
