The perfect day on Oahu’s famous Kaneohe Sand Bar with Captain Bob and a fab picnic

Kaneohe Sand Bar is one of all Hawaii’s most treasure playgrounds, and Captain Bob’s is the only tour operator who has exclusive rights to bring vacationers to the beautiful sandbar. And the best bit about that is it means you won’t be jockeying for space. You’ll have plenty of room to stretch your legs, relax and unwind, unless a game of water volleyball takes your fancy.

Set sail on a stunning trip to a beautiful sandbar and coral reef

Your day will begin with you being picked up from your hotel in Waikiki, and being transported over to the windward side of Oahu, either to Likelike or Pali Highway. Once there, you will board one of Captain Bobs’ catamarans at Heeia Pier and at and as you are about to set sail at 10.30 a.m., you will be taken through full safety instructions for your day out, and you will be given a personal fitting for all your snorkeling gear as well.

The journey over to the sandbar is, in itself, a treat. As if enjoying the crystal-clear waters of the Pacific Ocean was not enough as you keep a keen eye open for dolphins and green sea turtles, there are magical views across to Gilligan’s Island and Chinaman’s Hat, also known as Mokoli’i.

Once you arrive at Kaneohe Sandbar then the real fun begins. The crew on the catamaran will immediately spring in to action and the next thing you know they will have set up a net in the water for a game of water volleyball, and it doesn’t matter how experienced you are, the game is fun for all to play.

Of course, there is still the glorious sandbar to explore and if you want to relax, because of the limited numbers that can be taken on the trip, there is plenty of room for you to do your own thing. If you want to sunbathe or read a book, what more beautiful a place could you find?

You will not fail to recognize the delightful aroma of the barbecue which will be your early-warning system that lunch is on the way. Think hamburgers, baked beans, chips and fruit cocktail for dessert. Of course, if you let everyone know in advance that you are vegetarian or vegan, then there will be some delicious options for you too.

Snorkeling at its very best

For those of you who love snorkeling, the best is yet to come. After lunch you will set sail for your second stop of the day, a coral reef teeming with colorful aquatic life. You will be able to get up close and personal with numerous varieties of fish, including the Humuhumunukunukuapua’a, the state fish. There is also every possibility you will also get to see dolphins and a great favorite, the graceful green sea turtle.
